Study: Temporary Workers At Greater Risk For Injury

February 7th, 2008 · No Comments

According to a recent study conducted by the National  Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), contingent workers have significantly higher risks of injury than those who work in more traditional environments. The term contingent workers includes part-time, temporary, and contract workers, a category which can range from a well-paid consultant to a low-wage day laborer, though the demographic is usually characterized as young, female, or Hispanic. The study found, among other things, that the rate of fatal job-related injuries among self-employed workers is twice as high as the national average for all workers.
