Crane Crash in NYC

June 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

On May 31st, a crane collapsed at a construction site in New York City. The crash killed two construction workers. This is the second crane to collapse in Manhattan in 2 months.

The city has confirmed the construction site violated several zoning regulations. Due to heavy criticism, the city’s building commisioner, Patricia J Lancaster, has resigned.

Investigators are focusing on a particular weld that failed as well as examining the crane model, Kodiak. Although Kodiak is no longer manufactured, there are four other working Kodiak cranes in the city. All construction work with cranes in the city was halted and will resume on June 2nd.
