A jury blamed a railroad in the death of 4 people this week and awarded the families of the victims $24 million. The young victims riding in a Chevy Cavalier were between 17 and 20 in age. The railroad company, Burlington-Northern Santa Fe Railroad argued the victims in the vehicle were attempting to beat the train traveling at 60 mph when the crash occurred.
However, the jury agreed with prosecution in that the accident occurred because the railroad crossing warning signals failed to adequately warn the travelers of the train. The railroad company was found to be 90% responsible in the deaths.
